In October 2025 I will be flying halfway across the world to run the Chicago Marathon for the Danny Did foundation, which aims to protect children with epilepsy and support their families.

Our daughter Katie was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2024, following a series of unexplained seizures. I have found the months following this incredibly hard to navigate, but Katie’s resilience has been unwavering. The amount of information available has been overwhelming and the situation we’ve found ourselves in as a family came completely out of the blue. We could never have expected our lives to change so suddenly & we are SO grateful for all the support we’ve received since.

Chicago will be my 12th marathon and I feel incredibly lucky to be chosen to run for such a worthwhile cause. Together, we’re spreading awareness and creating safer outcomes!

About the Danny Did Foundation

Founded by Chicago parents Mike and Mariann Stanton in 2010 after the sudden death of their four-year-old son Danny, the primary mission of the Danny Did Foundation is to prevent deaths caused by seizures. The Foundation advances public awareness of epilepsy and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), strives to improve communication about SUDEP between medical professionals and families affected by seizures, and advocates for the mainstream acceptance and use of seizure detection and prediction devices that may assist in preventing seizure-related deaths.

Epilepsy affects 65 million people worldwide. The Danny Did Foundation takes its name from the last line of Danny Stanton’s obituary, written by his dad: “Please go and enjoy your life. Danny did.”

The Danny Did Foundation celebrates Danny’s spirit in every child and family they reach.
