All children deserve to celebrate their birthday. In memory of Danny, let's give them that chance.

Dear Danny,

Mom wears you around her neck, and Mary Grace has you in a heart frame. Johnny and Tommy adorn their bedroom with your pictures and mementos, and I've got my favorite picture of you and me in my wallet. It's from the summer of 2007 and, man, the look you're giving me says that I must have done something right. You were two years old at the time, and you were gorgeous. Now, it's 10 years later and it's your 12th birthday. Obviously, we've all made the adjustment on each of your previous seven birthdays that you haven't been at home…it's a real rearrangement of thought, and of everything else. Still, through the Danny Did Foundation you have so strongly continued your presence in the world, and this year Mom and I want to wish you a special HBD (that's how the kids write it these days). We want to celebrate and further your impact during March, your birthday month, by asking Danny Did friends to help us to give other kids a chance to make it to their next birthday. Our goal is to raise $12,000 this month —a grand for each grand year that you've engulfed our life.

You'll always be my middle boy, and I'll continue to love you more and more each year. Happy 12th birthday Daniel Curious George Washington Stanton…you are the best! - Dad

About Danny Did Foundation

Founded by Chicago parents Mike and Mariann Stanton in 2010 after the sudden death of their four-year-old son Danny, the Danny Did Foundation's primary mission is to prevent deaths caused by seizures. The Foundation advances public awareness of epilepsy and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), strives to improve communication about SUDEP between medical professionals and families impacted by seizures, and advocates for the mainstream acceptance and use of seizure detection and prediction devices that may assist in preventing seizure-related deaths.

Epilepsy affects nearly 3 million people in the United States and 65 million people worldwide. One in 26 Americans will develop epilepsy during their lifetime. But what few people understand, including many people impacted by the disorder, is that seizures can be fatal. More people die as a result of seizures than from fires and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) combined. The causes of death can vary and include drowning, other accidents and status epilepticus (prolonged seizures). In addition, thousands of deaths occur annually from SUDEP, a fact that is little known and too rarely addressed in public and in medical circles. The name of the Danny Did Foundation originates from the last line of Danny Stanton's obituary, written by his dad: "Please go and enjoy your life. Danny did."

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US TO HONOR OUR LITTLE BOY DURING HIS BIRTHDAY MONTH.

YOUR GIFT WILL BE CHERISHED.
