When Juliet was a year old, she was diagnosed with epilepsy. Her seizure type, complex partial, are difficult to predict as their presentation can change. Though often Juliet's seizures consist of starting off for about 15-30 seconds, on two occasions, she had seizures that froze her entire body, causing her to stop breathing. It was then that I became very aware and fearful of SUDEP, and was surprised no doctor had told me about it when she was diagnosed.
I'm running the Chicago Marathon for the DANNY DID FOUNDATION to help keep keeps like Juliet safe by raising awareness and access to funding for devices that can save the life of a child having a seizure.
