A MARATHON SWIM & 90 MILE HIKE THROUGH THE SWISS ALPS!
The Challenge: Complete a Marathon Swim & 90-mile Hike through the Swiss Alps
Thank you for joining my Hike and Swim to protect people with epilepsy and prevent SUDEP. This is my third marathon swim and first alpine hike for the Danny Did Foundation! Please see my challenge itinerary below. I am a proud board member, and supporter of Danny Did. The funds we raise will go to families that need a seizure detection device.
Seizures are unpredictable and can be deadly. Detection devices alert family members when their loved one needs help. They offer peace of mind to families, more independence for those suffering from seizures, and, often, valuable information for the patient's neurologists.
The Stanton family established Danny Did to prevent other families from suffering the enormous heartbreak of losing a child or loved one to SUDEP, sudden unexpected death from epilepsy. To date, Danny Did's device grant program has assisted families and patients spanning all 50 states and 17 countries.
Diane's Hike and Swim for Danny Did:
- 26-mile swim starts August 7, Brevard, NC
- 90-mile hike starts August 23 in Schwarzwaldalp, Switzerland
- Hike ends September 1 in Gasterntal, Switzerland
- Swim finishes first two weeks in September, Brevard NC
My hike and swim will be challenging and my inspiration comes from the last line of Danny Stanton's obituary, written by his dad: "Please go and enjoy your life. Danny did." We celebrate Danny's spirit in every child and family we reach.
Gratefully,
Diane

The Danny Did Epilepsy Foundation was founded by Chicago parents Mike and Mariann Stanton in 2010 after the sudden death of their four-year-old son Danny, the Danny Did Foundation’s primary mission is to prevent deaths caused by seizures. The Foundation advances public awareness of epilepsy and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), strives to improve communication about SUDEP between medical professionals and families affected by seizures, and advocates for the mainstream acceptance and use of seizure detection and prediction devices that may assist in preventing seizure-related deaths.
The Danny Did Foundation takes it's name from the last line of Danny Stanton’s obituary, written by his dad: “Please go and enjoy your life. Danny did.” We celebrate Danny’s spirit in every child and family we reach.
