My nine-year-old son, Owen, has been living with epilepsy for most of his life. In his short life, he has suffered thousands of seizures, and that's no exaggeration. Seizures have robbed him of his ability to walk, talk, or do many of the things most of us take for granted. Seizures have robbed our family of any sense of normalcy.
Worst of all, seizures could rob him of his life. Seizures from epilepsy can be fatal for many reasons, one of which is SUDEP ( sudden unexplained death in epilepsy). Some of the risk factors for SUDEP are uncontrolled or frequent seizures; seizures at a young age; and many years of living with epilepsy.
I'm choosing to run 26.2 miles in support of Owen and others like him living with epilepsy. I'm choosing to do so on behalf of the Dannydid Foundation to help support their goals of better education around SUDEP and mainstreaming seizure detection and prediction devices to assist in preventing seizure deaths. I would be honored if you would consider donating to our team.
