This past September, my daughter texted me with terrible news, her friend, Samantha, who had epilepsy, had a seizure during a cross country meet and had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Sam was described by her cross country coach as a "ray of sunshine" and I can think of no better way to describe her. Her smile was infectious. She excelled at everything she undertook. She lived life to it's fullest and achieved more in her just under 18 years than most people will achieve over far longer lifespans. She continues to live on in the hearts of the many whose lives she touched. Since that tragic day, I cannot lace up my running shoes without thinking of Sam.
I was not planning to run the Chicago Marathon this year but when I read about the Danny Did Foundation, I was moved by Danny's story and the mission and vision of the foundation. On October 13, 2019, I will lace up my running shoes in memory of Sam and in support of the Danny Did Foundation mission "to advance public awareness of epilepsy and the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), to protect people with epilepsy, and to prevent deaths caused by seizures."
